In between the worlds of fiction and reality. The Skolkovo dome shall actually be a buffer between inside and outside, explains architect Kazuyo Sejima on stage at the DLD Moscow “Spacial Insipration” panel. The result is perfect “in-dome” weather.

“We intend to change the perception of the climate,” says Katia Gaika, Deputy Director for Education and Research IT Cluster, Skolkovo Foundation. Behind her sits climate engineer Matthias Schuler who explains how the dome project is about to become a structural and technical reality (see video below). Artificial clouds, vegetation and even a rainbow will be possible.

“This is how the city of the future will look like”, says climate engineer Matthias Schuler at the DLD Moscow “Spacial Inspiration” panel. This dome, co-designed by SANAA architect Kazuyo Sejima, will cover part of Skolkovo city’s Central District. Made of glass and steel strands, the dome will help create a special microclimate inside. By absorbing heat in the summer and releasing it in the winter, it is possible to create the perfect indoor weather. And best of all - carbon neutral. By 2015 the 40 hectare hub and focal point of Russia’s “Silicon Valley” should be ready to give thousands of visitors an everyday pleasure.

WELCOME!

The lights are on, the seats have been taken, the microphones are buzzing. The very first DLD Moscow is reality, paving the way for two days of disruption, debating and power-networking.

DLD founders and directors Steffi Czerny and Marcel Reichart welcomed a full room of eager Participants, sidelined by the Skolkovo Foundation’s Katia Gaika and other friends, executives and chairmen of the conference.

Smiles were wide with a stint of nervousness and the flashes of activity that always surrounds the beginning of great events.

After the speeches and heart-felt “welcomes” (and Yossi’s trademark singing), the center stage was readied for the first debate.

By now there is no turning back - we are ready to roll!
